Progressive Healthcare Systems, LLC Puts the Internet to Work for Physician Organizations

Management Services Company Provides Desk-top Access to Information

Calabasas, Calif., November 3, 1999-The Internet may be the force that takes doctors out of their mire of paperwork and gives them time to practice medicine. That is the goal of Progressive Healthcare Systems, Inc., LLC. (PHS), a new Management Services Organization (MSO) that provides a wide range of management services to healthcare organizations, plus 24-hour-a-day Internet access to the records, reports and other information that physicians need.

PHS, headquartered in Calabasas, California, provides a choice of complete practice management or selected management services for medical groups and independent practice associations (IPAs). But the company has gone a step further and made the Internet its center for the transfer of information. A physician who needs to know a patient's insurance eligibility or a staff member who is tracking the results of a prevention program simply logs on to the PHS Web site, enters an assigned password and finds the needed information. No long phone calls, no lost faxes, no mail delays; just log on, point and click.

Marvin V. H. Kanter, M.D., chief executive officer of PHS, points out that technological advances have made a huge impact on the clinical aspects of medical practice in recent years, but they have been slow to reach the business side of medicine. "Now, all that is changing," he says. "Our computers can generate more useful data than any physician could hope for even a decade ago. And, with instant Internet access through the PHS Web site, that information is available to physicians when and where they need it."

More and more physician organizations are turning to management companies to take care of the business, financial, planning and other non-clinical aspects of their practices. The Internet-based model introduced by PHS provides quicker, easier access to information as well as instant links to related healthcare and business organizations, according to Dr. Kanter. "That Internet advantage, plus the many computerized reports we can provide, will help physician organizations become more efficient and more successful," he says.

PHS was founded in 1999 by a group of physicians and healthcare executives, all pioneers in managed care and each with more than 20 years experience in medical group or IPA practice. Its management team includes: Dr. Kanter, chief executive officer; Joan Rose, M.P.H., chief operating officer; Bernard Siegel, M.D., chief medical officer; and Michael L. McKee, C.P.A., chief financial officer.

Progressive Healthcare Systems (www.msophs.com), based in Calabasas, California, is a management services organization offering Internet-based business and management solutions, backed by extensive managed care experience, to medical groups, IPAs and other healthcare organizations.
